Lanzarote🌞
A well overdue blog post !
Last month, I joined Mina, Ryan, and Brenda for a long weekend trip to Lanzarote, one of the 7 main sunny islands in the Canaries. We worked the Thursday and hopped on a plane the same night and reached our airbnb in Lanzarote past midnight! Our airbnb was a lovely three bedroom with a nice view of the ocean and the city centre at walking distance. All in all, we loved Lanzarote and I hope this post persuades you to go visit as well :)
On day 1, after a long night’s sleep we drove to the cactus garden to eat some cactus burgers and look at cacti of all shapes and sizes. I especially liked the round fat cacti- they looked very cute despite the harm they can do to you! The cactus burger definitely had an odd taste and I’d prefer a beef burger but it was worth the experience! After walking around the garden some more, we drove up to the north of the island to the beach called Playa del Risco in hope to swim for a bit. We were faced with strong winds and very cold water so we decided to have a stroll on the sand and enjoy the view on dry land. On the way back, we stopped by a cute town called Teguise, where we walked around and visited small shops selling trinkets and gadgets of all sorts. We ended up getting a snack before heading back as well! For dinner, we went to a local restaurant to celebrate Brenda’s birthday with amazing seafood and a mini cake thanks to the lovely staff at the restaurant. All in all a great first day!
On day 2, we went on a long walk around a volcano called Volcán el Cuervo during the day, where the locals were coincidentally having a festival in the area as well :) The walk around and inside the volcano was roughly 2 hours and we enjoyed the Mars like scenery surrounding us all around. The walk is very flat so I recommend anyone wanting a long easy walk to visit this volcano! We also took some nice photos- my favorite is of Brenda with her Spiderman pose mid air! After our walk, we had a big late lunch with all the Spanish foods we can’t get in the UK and everything tasted amazing! From the squid ink paella to croquets to tapas of octopus, I really enjoyed the feast! We definitely had too much to eat so headed back to our airbnb to rest our bellies and then later that night, walked to a nearby shopping mall to get yogurt ice creams to end the day. We weren’t planning on shopping around but Mina and I spontaneously ended up going on a late night mini shopping spree!
And on the final day, we drove to a beach town in the southern part of the island and enjoyed a last view of the ocean and later cooled down in a cafe to have the last of the Spanish food we could treat ourselves to. We felt pretty toasted by then so we did our mandatory supermarket stop and got some souvenirs to take home before we headed to the airport.
It was a short holiday but it definitely fulfilled my seafood cravings and also got to soak up the last of the summer heat! I had a great time and would love to go back one day! Thanks to the crew for a fun getaway :)
