Book review #4 No exit
- Taylor adams
This book is without a doubt the most terrifying book I’ve ever read so far! This thriller by Taylor Adams is a story about a college girl named Darby that’s driving home to see her dying mother in Utah but gets stuck on a highway rest stop due to a heavy blizzard. Little did she know that the next 13 hours in this little rest stop will be a living hell for her...
When she reaches the rest stop, she finds four other strangers already inside waiting for the blizzard to pass. Desperate to find a phone signal to reach her sister that’s staying with her mother, Darby goes outside to a location recommended by one of the strangers named Ashley, later to be a key player in changing Darby’s fate. Failing to reach a signal, she decides to go back to the rest stop but sees a little girl’s hand inside a cage of one of the strangers’ cars. She first doesn’t believe her eyes and thinks that she mistakenly seen it due to the bad weather. She goes inside the rest stop but the blurry image of the girl’s hand keeps bugging her. She goes back outside to check and sure enough, she sees the girl locked up. She knows that the captor is one of the four strangers inside the rest stop, but has to figure out which of the four it is without causing a ruckus that’ll make saving the girl an impossible mission. With her wit and determination, she decides to help this girl escape from her captor’s car which brings her into countless obstacles she ends up having to go through the entire night.
The book covers the 13 hours she’s stuck in this deadly rest stop, and the series of events that happen will keep you wanting to read further. She suffers from events you’d never want to experience if you were in her shoes. Despite the trapped girl being a total stranger to Darby, she risks her life and acts fearlessly to save her. I won’t spoil the plot here but I can promise you that you won’t get bored during the entire book. There are several gory parts and the way Adams writes will make you paint the scene in your head so just be aware of this if you’re not good with blood. I read this book last December during one of the coldest weeks I’ve experienced and it wasn’t the best idea to read this then.., Nevertheless, I was so absorbed that I even took it with me to work to read during my lunch break :)
I most likely won’t be returning to it anytime soon since I was slightly traumatized by it for a few days, but it is definitely a great fictional read to set your mind elsewhere. If you want a quick adrenaline rush or a fast paced up-and-down rollercoaster ride of emotions inside your head, I’d highly recommend this one!
