homey weekends
My closet is a mess since we’ve been swinging to and fro between winter and spring… I hope all of you have spent the first two months of 2021 well. I’ve been enjoying going outside and absorbing the sun on the weekends to compensate for the lack of it during the week! Nothing major has taken place in my life since the year started; I’ve been working the usual 8-5, resting up on the weekends, and repeating the same cycle once again. Not nearly as eventful as I wish my life to be but there’s not much of an option this time of age is there?? Despite the looming pressure of staying indoors, I’ve been keeping myself busy with a few new habits I’ve picked up so I thought I’d share a few here :)
Something that’s become a habit since the beginning of this year is baking bread on Sunday afternoon with my rice cooker ( a great alternative for people that don’t own an oven like me). Usually around 17:00 when I’m unwinding and slowly dreading the following Monday to come, I get the urge to mix dough… There isn’t much you can do with a rice cooker, but I’ve been making soft sweet rolls with red potato, sesame, and dried fruit. Bread made in the oven is definitely much tastier and crunchier, but I’ve been baking a batch so that I can munch on them before heading out the door on the weekdays. If you have other ingredient ideas to add in my small repertoire of bread, let me know :)
Apart from my mini self bakery, I’ve also revisited Kuroiso park, a beautiful open area with a jogger friendly pathway accompanied with the view of the mountains and a river. One of my new favorite things to do is sit up on the hill and read under the sun without any distractions but the sounds of the river and children running around. Although it’s still chilly to stay out for long, I always feel refreshed and detoxed right after! On the way home, I stop by a small bakery near the station called Kanel bread to pick up some bread for the next morning. After having my rice cooker bread, the bread at this bakery tastes galaxies better so I’ll definitely be going back frequently to satisfy my taste bud. The cafe right next to it is also my new go to when I just want a quick pastry and tea. It’s a small place with a woodsy feeling and soft country music in the background which is very soothing for my inner Tennesseean soul :) It’s run by young and friendly baristas whom seem to really enjoy what they do for a living; something I hope to find myself very soon!
To sum up I’ve basically been adapting grannie hobbies, but it’s been keeping me sane since the start of this year. With the vaccines slowly reaching us I hope we return back to how life was soon. Now on to March :)
I’ve also written another book review so click on the link below to take a look ↓
