what’s good, 2021?

Happy New Year! I hope all of you had a relaxed and cheerful winter break. I spent the entire break back home with family, and it felt amazingly refreshing to spend a week of nothing but food, tv, game nights, and afternoon naps. Unfortunately I’m back in Tochigi now and have returned back to work since Wednesday. It’s always difficult to return back to the 8-5 work week, especially when I have to get up when its 0 degrees outside! It’s my third winter here but the cold weather hasn’t grown on me yet..On the last day of my vacation, I decided to set a few goals for myself so that I don’t waste a year worth of my time. It’s fairly mild since I know I won’t follow through if it’s too intense but here’s what I came up with:)

  1. Make more time to read

I’ve definitely picked up the habit of reading a lot more last year than any year before, but if I have the option of reading or watching a tv series, my lazy bum will always go for the remote control. So I hope to intentionally turn away from tv and read more this year! I downloaded the app Goodreads to track my reading and have set my goal to read 25 books this year. Let’s see how I proceed with this one!

2. Stretch after getting up

Sometime long ago in 2019 I started doing yoga in the mornings before work but that never stuck for more than a week so this year I’m going to restart this! So far I’ve only managed to put in 4 minutes of yoga time these past few days… I’m hoping to gradually get up earlier and spend more time on the mat than on my bed hitting the snooze button!

3. Live day by day with intention

This one I’d say is the most important of the three. It’s difficult to make each day worthy when I’m working a job I’m not so passionate about, but if I spend the hours out of office on something that’ll make me happy or feel accomplished, I think my everyday will be slightly more fruitful. Little things like moving my body, learning a new language, cooking a healthy meal will already make my day more meaningful so I hope to incorporate some kind of activity on a daily bases.

Those are my goals in a nutshell! Now that I’m held accountable I hope to live by my words and make this year better than the last. Before I go, I wanted to share a photo of Mikawa bay taken on the last day of my vacation. I’ve always loved seeing sunsets but this particular one was immensely soothing.

Here’s to a year of challenges and moments to cherish!
