getaway in scotland
It’s already the last day of May! This month has passed by like a breeze as any other month since the year started. April was a busy month for me with all of my assignments for the term to finish and submit but that is all taken care of 🙏 A week after all the chaos, Simone, Bianca, and I took the train from London to Edinburgh to start our 5 day trip in Scotland. I genuinely had a great time there and would 1000% recommended a visit. Here’s a quick recap of what we did!
Once we reached Edinburgh, we dropped off our bags at our hostel and went on a mini adventure around the city. We walked down the Royal Mile and the Old Town full of quirky shops and pubs. Just walking down the road was lovely on it’s own! We also walked up Arthur’s Seat and devoured the view of Edinburgh from up top. It is one of the most picturesque and geographically dynamic cities I’ve seen in my lifetime - with the stunning castle standing on the boulder and the streets with little alleyways in every corner. We were all in awe!
We spent another full day in Edinburgh and visited the castle, walked around the Princes street garden, had brunch at a local street market, sat by the Scott monument, and spontaneously joined a ghost dungeon tour which was great fun. It was a short 1.5 days in Edinburgh but we enjoyed it heaps!
On day 3 we took the Scotrail to our next destination, Glasgow. We were welcomed to Glasgow by the rain unfortunately so we went straight to our hotel and waited for the rain to go away in the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum. Later on that day, we took the bus back to the city center, walked down the main streets and visited the Willow Tea Rooms for cakes and tea. It was the ideal day for tea since we couldn’t do much outside other than chase the rain! We were lucky with the weather for the rest of the trip though and got to see landmarks like the University of Glasgow and George’s Square. The highlight in Glasgow for me was the Devil’s Pulpit tour we booked for our last day before our flight that night. We got to go down into the freezing cold water and immerse ourselves into the unreal surroundings :)
It was one of the best moments of my existence, and I’m so glad to have gotten to experience it with for the most part superb weather! Thanks Simone and Bianca for being my travel buddies on this trip and to Tiago for the best recommendations :) Can’t wait to visit again!
